who knows / when i close my eyes
in the future in the future i see myself standing at the door of an apartment building. Its one of the take-over apartments in a slightly more ethnic area…. like Alphabet City used to be in my imagination. ‘the’ girl left an hour or so earlier. i’m holding a paper in hand, but not because its mine. It’s a neighbors. I place it in their box and close the door.
I’m awake wicked early.
I walk the streets and stop and get coffee at a place much like Lolita but its not Lolita.
I stop at a market and get some fruit and vegies and a paper.
I walk more and get to where I work. I climb several stories to my office and call a girl. She just got to work and can’t talk long. But we say hi, i love you and we can’t get together for lunch today but will tomorrow for certain.
I look at pictures from playing soccer and frizbee in the park - who knows what park it is.
Me and some co-worker, partner types go to a museum to schmooooz with a client.
At lunch we have food and drinks and get happy and go walking. While walking we think of many thing to do and to make the world a better place.
I head home early and make dinner for ‘the’ girl. ‘the’ girl comes home and we enjoy dinner and she leaves for a function and comes back to me working. I work, I pause and enjoy company of ‘the’ girl, we enjoy each others company and then when she has fallen asleep i carry her to bed and put her to bed.
a friend of mine shows up at the apartment and we work for a few hours. we descend to a bar at the bottom of our building and enjoy a few. he leaves.
i get in bed with ‘the’ girl.
we wake up and start more.
i’m definitely happy.
i feel pretty happy.
when i close my eyes….
fuck. isn’t that shit the truth.

I think the lady at the end of the video sums this up beautifully in saying, “Weapons show you have no intention of using your mind.”
Granted, the few folks before her also put forth the facts that we live in a world of weapons; the criminals have weapons therefore the police must have weapons. But the gentleman towards the end of the video smartly states that the gun is not the most important part of communicating and promoting justice in a community.
The Sean Bell situation is a sad and truly confusing situation.

I haven’t read this over yet, but I must say - I kinda like the new Franklin Institute identity.
The Franklin Institute is very, very dear to me in many ways. It’s kinda cool to see it get a new identity. I don’t really like that they seem to have dropped the “institute” portion, I don’t think Philadelphians will take to that either. I think the “design” is really sharp. It feels like SEED and Scientific America magazines. It’s clearly modern and meaningful. I will miss the stickers of the previous identity.
I wonder if they even give out stickers still? hmm.
now to actually read the post.
UPDATE: After reading the article and digesting the identity more… I’ve reacted as follows. This wouldn’t be SO truly disappointing if the Franklin Institute didn’t have a history. The rinconsiderate thin lines are a terrific point. The dropping of “Institute” is a straight-up CRIME! If this is the work by a designer or firm FROM Philadelphia they shouldn’t be allowed to do business any longer.
Very Unfortuante.
