Two things….

Thing 1

Today I took my car in to the dealership to get some recall shit together and I realized something… The iPad doesn’t have a camera! You’re like, “durrr!” and obviously I knew this little tid-bit before but today was the first time that I wished it had a camera.

I really like my iPad. It’s done the “filling the void that wasn’t there” really well. At night when I’m planning out my tomorrow, I do so with Things on the iPad and it’s nice because I don’t open my computer and start thinking about work or checking email, twatter or whatever else might be going on in the intertubes. It’s great. I do one thing at a time, I get it done and it’s easier to get to sleep sooner or not be stressed out by what is looming in my laptop.

But the damn thing doesn’t have a camera. I reasoned this away upon purchasing the device. I said to myself, “Buy the cheap one and then buy it in a year when it has a camera for iChat.” And really I haven’t cared about the camera aspect. AND really there’s no friggin reason to have a good camera of any sort in the machine - you’re not REALLY going to take pics with your iPad.

BUT WAIT!!!! I was waiting for my car today and the new VW brochures have QR codes! So I whip out my phone and zap that shit. Boom! Videos. Videos showing the painting of a Golf, driving of a golf.. all these little enhancements that, for an enthusiast, you love. Tangent, the fact that I couldn’t download phone wallpapers was, frankly, stupid. But back to point - I wondered, “What do these mobile sites look like on the iPad?!.. oh, wait, I can’t tell because there’s no damn camera.”

The fact that there is no camera currently isn’t a big deal at all. I can still reason that it doesn’t need a camera in this particular run of the device. But in time, it’s going to need one.. or a universal bump… something will have to call up these little sites, downloads and whatever. If you walk into a car dealer with an iPad I should be able to instantly HAVE the brochure on the iPad, if I go to the bank for a loan they should be able to bump/qr me the brochure and info these things.

Thing 2

Dearest companies. You have to pick a few (few equals “like 3-ish”) colors. You have to choose a cohesive mindset. You have to step outside of your box. I don’t like what I’m about to say, but if you’re going to DIY then you really, really have to copy someone; copy someone, then start seeing if that copying really worked for your message.

Also, your crazy simple, notecard approach to pointers and pitching aren’t for the webternets. Slap it all on one page. Less on the page, but more pages does not equate to “less is more”… it’s work.

Blargh… anyway… I’m procrastinating.
